Jose DiGregorio

As a child of Puerto Rican/Argentinean parents in a very poor social-economic environment with a language barrier, I grew up in an insular household where I didn’t know how to access art. The idea of attending a gallery or museum was incredibly foreign, I literally did not connect it as part of any community cultural fabric whatsoever. Continuing the legacy of manual labor as a means of providing for my family, I worked in numerous factories in my young adulthood. Inevitably I saw my art practice as an honest extension of my identity and livelihood.

As a muralist and painter, I have been working extensively for over 25 years, with exhibitions and festivals internationally and in the U.S., including Art Basel Miami, Canada, France, Finland, Los Angeles, Kosovo, Mexico, New York City, Oakland, Portland, San Francisco, and Sweden, among others. My work has been featured in various acclaimed publications, including spreads in Juxtapoz, Hi-Fructose, Epiphany, Submerge, SNR, & Sac Bee, along with numerous other newspapers, radio interviews, and periodicals

I studied at the Pont-Aven school of contemporary art in Brittany, France, and the Herron School Of Art And Design in Indianapolis, IN.

Born in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico, I currently live in Sacramento, CA.
