Marta Shannon is a fiber artist who lives and weaves in Petaluma, Cali-fornia. She first started weaving in the late 70’s when her textile curiosi- ty was piqued while pursuing a degree in Latin American Studies. She has been weaving professionally and teaching weaving since 1981.
Since 1996 she has had a studio in an old chicken coop in Petaluma where she weaves scarves, shawls, ponchos, and throws, to sell or as custom orders. She likes to pursue the limits of what is traditionally considered “cloth”. exploring and challenging the outer edges of color, tex-ture, and pattern on her loom and in her finishing techniques. She loves her work and gets immense satisfaction in crafting beautiful fabrics from threads. She offers classes at her studio on the west side of Petaluma, the Sebastopol Center for the Arts, at various yarn stores in Sonoma County, and privately.
