California State Fair Art Docent Program

Docents are volunteer teachers who provide learning experiences for Art visitors in the form of discussions and tours. They also help to facilitate art sales. Docents help enhance the visitor experience and provide a vital link between art and the visitors. A background in art is not required, just a passion for life-long learning.

You will have the opportunity to assist with pre-fair activities such as judging and artwork delivery, as well as working in the building while the State Fair is open.

Don’t feel ready? We will train you! You can participate in one or all of our art programs: Fine Arts, California Crafts, Photography, Plein Air and Student Showcase.

All docents will receive credentials for entry into the fair and parking on their shift days.
