Laurie Winkelman is from a 140-cow Brown Swiss and Holstein farm in Watertown, Wisconsin. The Twinkle-Hill Brown Swiss herd has received the Ira Inman Trophy, an award for production and classification excellence, six times, and has had 21 All American nominations. Laurie and her sister, Jeannie, received the 2013 Outstanding Young Breeder Award for the Brown Swiss Association. Four of Twinkle-Hill’s Brown Swiss cows were in the 2016 Hoard’s Dairyman Cow Judging Contest; including having the Supreme Champion cow.

Winkelman is a 2003 graduate of UW-Madison, where she was a member of the dairy judging team. She was on 5 winning collegiate teams, including the 2002 National Intercollegiate Contest at World Dairy Expo.

She was High Individual at three collegiate competitions, including the 2002 National Contest, and was also the High Individual at the National 4-H Dairy Judging Contest in 2000. She is only the 4th person to have won both the National 4-H and Collegiate dairy judging contests.

Laurie has judged county, district, state, and national shows throughout the U.S. Additionally, from 2005 to 2010, she coached successful dairy judging teams with Ohio 4-H, The Ohio State University, and Cornell University.

Winkelman has a Master’s degree from The Ohio State University and a Ph.D. from Cornell University. In 2011, she began her career as a dairy nutritionist for Vita Plus Corporation and resides in Appleton, WI. In her spare time, Laurie enjoys running, crossfit, and spending time on her family’s dairy. She has run more than 40 marathons, including 7 Boston Marathon finishes!
