Almost everyone can donate blood but only 3% of eligible donors actually donate! Let’s change that!

Vitalant collects several thousand fewer donations during the summer season because those who donate regularly are on vacation and schools take a summer break. But patients continue to need blood for countless reasons including injuries sustained in motor vehicle and recreational accidents, effects of cancer treatments, post-childbirth massive blood loss, blood disorders, burn injuries and more. The need for blood affects everyone because a patient who needs blood can be a child, a teen, a mom or dad, a neighbor or co-worker, a grandparent, or someone who crosses your path every day. Let’s make sure we have the blood needed to support patients through crises that can affect any one of us.

Donating Blood

Details:

1. Donors must be in good general health and feel good on the day of donation.
2. Donors must be at least 16 years old (with parent/guardian written permission on form available at vitalant.org) – there is no upper age limit.
3. Donors must weigh at least 110 pounds.
4. Bring a photo ID.
5. Hydrate well (non-alcoholic drinks) at least 24 hours prior to donating.
6. Eat within two hours ahead of your donation.
